Wreath storage containers: why a 24-inch wreath needs a 30-inch box
The nominal size on the box is the box, not the opening. Here is the diameter-to-container chart nobody publishes, with clearance included.

This is the single most reliable complaint in seasonal storage: someone buys a 24-inch wreath, buys a 24-inch wreath box, and finds the wreath does not go in. Nobody is lying. The 24-inch figure describes the container, and a wreath measured across its greenery is bigger than the wreath you were sold.

A nominal 24-inch wreath with a bow needs the 30-inch container.
Depth is the spec nobody checks
Diameter gets all the attention and depth is what actually crushes a wreath. A plain evergreen ring is two or three inches deep. A decorated wreath with pinecones, berry clusters and a wired ribbon bow can easily be six or seven inches deep at the bow.
One of our picks publishes a 7-inch interior height, which is unusually forthcoming; the other does not publish a depth at all. Measure your wreath lying flat on a table, from the table to the highest point of the bow. If that number is bigger than the box’s stated height, the bow will be flat by January.
Hard shell versus soft bag
A soft zip bag takes the shape of whatever is stacked on it, which in a garage is usually a tote full of ornaments. A hard shell keeps its shape and takes the load. For anything with structure to lose — and a wreath is nothing but structure — it is worth the extra.
The trade is that hard shells are usually built over a cardboard frame, which does not love a damp garage. If your storage is genuinely damp, keep the container off the concrete floor and away from the exterior wall.
Storing a wreath so it survives
- Flat, never on edge. A wreath stored vertically settles under its own weight and comes out oval.
- Bow up. Nothing should press on it.
- One wreath per container. Stacking two in one box crushes the lower one, which is exactly the outcome the box was bought to prevent.
- Do not compress it into place. If it needs pushing, the container is too small and no amount of pushing will change that.

Usually not, if it has a bow. The 24-inch figure describes the container, and a nominal 24-inch wreath typically measures 25 to 28 inches across its greenery. Add about two inches of clearance and buy the 30-inch box.
›How do you store a wreath so it keeps its shape?
Flat, bow upward, one wreath per container, in a hard shell that will not deform under a stack. Never stored on edge and never compressed into a box that is fighting it.
›Can you store two wreaths in one container?
You can fit them; the lower one will be flat by next season. One wreath per container is the whole reason the container exists.
