›How many amps do Christmas lights use?
A 100-count incandescent mini string draws about 40 W, which is 0.33 A at 120 V. The equivalent LED string draws about 5 W, or 0.04 A. Per bulb, a C9 incandescent is about 7 W and a C9 LED about 1 W. The full table is in how many amps do Christmas lights use.
›How many Christmas lights can I run on one circuit?
A 15 amp circuit at 120 V gives a 1,440 W continuous budget once you leave the standard 80 percent headroom — roughly 36 incandescent 100-count strings or 288 LED ones. A 20 amp circuit gives 1,920 W. Everything else already on that circuit comes out of the same budget.
›Why do my Christmas lights keep tripping the breaker?
Usually the total continuous load on that circuit exceeds the 80 percent budget, or something else on the same circuit switches on and pushes it over. Add up everything on the circuit, not just the lights, using the load calculator. If the numbers say you are well inside budget and it still trips, that is a question for an electrician rather than for arithmetic.
›How many light strings can I connect end to end?
That is a separate limit from your circuit, published on the set itself, and both apply at once. Exceeding the series limit overloads the first plug in the chain rather than the breaker. Commonly three to five sets for incandescent, often many more for LED.
›What gauge extension cord do I need for a Christmas display?
14 gauge for the main run from the house and 16 gauge only for a short branch feeding LED strings. The deciding factor is what is on the end: LED displays draw very little, while incandescent runs and inflatable blowers add up quickly. Details in extension cords by gauge.
›How much does it cost to run Christmas lights for a season?

›How many lights do I need for a Christmas tree?
About 100 lights per vertical foot for a classic look, 150 for a full one and 200 for a showpiece. A 7.5-foot tree at classic density needs about 750 bulbs, which is eight 100-count strings. Run your own numbers in the lights calculator.
›What size wreath do I need for my front door?
About two thirds of the door width, which on a standard 36-inch US front door means a 24-inch wreath. An 18-inch wreath on the same door covers half the width and reads as undersized — it is the most common porch mistake there is.
›Will a 24-inch wreath fit a 24-inch wreath storage container?
Usually not, if it has a bow. The 24-inch figure describes the container, and a nominal 24-inch wreath typically measures 25 to 28 inches across its greenery. Add about two inches of clearance and buy the 30-inch box. The full chart is in wreath storage containers.
›How much garland do I need for a banister or a mantel?
Measure the straight-line run and add about a third for swag and drape. A 12-foot banister needs about 16 feet, so two 9-foot garlands, and another if you are wrapping the newel post.
›What tree height fits my ceiling?
Measure floor to ceiling and subtract about 12 inches for the stand and topper. An 8-foot ceiling takes a 7-foot tree comfortably; a 7.5-foot tree plus stand and topper comes very close to 8 feet 6 inches.
›What is branch tip count and why does it matter?
It is the total number of individual pieces of foliage on an artificial tree, and it is the only comparable published number in the category. Divide it by the height for tips per foot: under 175 reads as sparse, 175 to 225 as normal, over 250 as genuinely full.

›How do I store Christmas lights so they do not tangle?
Wind them onto a reel as they come off the house, under light tension, without letting the strand touch the ground. The tangle forms between the roof and the box, so closing that gap is the entire fix. Method in how to store Christmas lights.
›What size storage bag does my artificial tree need?
Match the bag length to the tree’s longest disassembled section, which runs roughly 45 to 55 percent of the tree height. Then check the bag’s height against your shelf, because that is what usually decides it.
›Are plastic totes or fabric bags better for decorations?
Neither alone. Rigid totes for bulk and anything that can take a knock, fabric bags for soft bulky items like garland and nets, hard-shell cases for wreaths and ornaments. The rule that prevents most damage is: rigid on the bottom, soft on top, nothing heavy on a wreath.
›How should Halloween decorations be stored?
Dry inflatables completely before boxing — run the blower for twenty minutes, then let them stand indoors for a day. Bag the stakes separately so they cannot puncture fabric, take every battery out of every prop, and give Halloween its own labeled zone in front of the Christmas stack.
