A Halloween yard display is the only seasonal decorating job where the electrical load is genuinely significant, and it is the one category where nobody publishes the number. An inflatable’s lights are trivial; its blower runs continuously for the whole evening, every evening, and that is the load.

Not one inflatable in this category publishes its blower wattage in the listing. That is the single most useful number for planning a yard and it is universally absent.

As a working scale from the street: under 5 feet reads as a porch accent, 5 to 7 feet reads from the sidewalk, and 8 feet reads from a passing car. On a small frontage an 8-foot piece can overwhelm; on a deep lot a 5-foot one disappears. Measure the setback from the street before you buy the biggest thing available.
Working out the load without a published figure
You have two options and both are better than guessing.
- Read the tag. Every inflatable has its wattage or amperage on the blower housing or the power supply, because it has to. Find it when the piece arrives, write it on the storage box, and you never have to find it again.
- Measure it. A plug-in energy monitor costs very little and tells you the truth about your specific unit, which is better than any published figure would be.
The arithmetic

A full Halloween yard is usually a modest load — but the blowers run all evening, and it is the running that adds up.
The 60 W figures above are placeholders for illustration, and you should replace them with the numbers off your own tags. Put the real ones into the load calculator; it takes arbitrary rows, so a yard with three blowers and a projector goes in directly.
Wind is what actually ends a display
Halloween in most of the US means wind, and an inflatable is a sail. Everything that goes wrong on a Halloween lawn traces back to anchoring:
- Use every stake and every tether that came in the box. Makers supply them because they are needed, and the count is what you should write on the storage tote.
- Stake at an angle, away from the figure. A vertical stake pulls straight out; an angled one loads against the soil.
- Deflate in high wind. A deflated inflatable is a puddle of fabric. An inflated one in a gale is a torn seam, and seams do not repair well.
- Keep the blower and every connection out of standing water. A stake timer at ground level is a good idea for exactly this reason — see outdoor timers.
Building a yard that reads
A display that looks composed rather than accumulated usually has three depths:
- One tall anchor near the house, at 7 to 8 feet. This is what people see first.
- A mid layer at 3 to 5 feet, spread across the lawn to give the display width.
- Ground detail along the path, where trick-or-treaters actually walk. This is the layer that gets photographed.
A projector belongs in the first layer — on a window or the house wall — because it works on a surface rather than in the yard, and it fills space nothing else can.
And then it all has to go somewhere
Halloween storage is harder than Christmas storage: the inflatables come in damp, and damp inflatables in a sealed tote grow mildew that does not come off. Dry everything properly, bag the stakes separately so they cannot puncture fabric, and give Halloween its own labeled zone in front of the Christmas stack.
