The best artificial poinsettias, ranked on height and whether they come in pairs
A poinsettia almost always wants to be two. Height and piece count are the only figures this category publishes, and a third of the field prints neither.
By Sawyer V. · Published

The pick is the Nearly Natural 24 inch pair: a published height, a published count of two, and two is the number this plant is almost always bought in. If it is going into soil or an existing urn outdoors, buy the Daynight pair instead — it is the only listing here that states both outdoor use and an included stake. For a hall table, the Nearly Natural 19 inch in its own wrapped planter is the one you put down and walk away from.
This category publishes two figures: height and piece count. That sounds thin until you notice how many listings omit one of them. The skip below prints neither, which on a plant bought entirely for its scale is the whole specification missing.

#1 — A matched pair either side of a door or mantel
Nearly Natural 24 in red artificial poinsettia plant, set of 2
24 in tall, set of 2
6.3
/ 10
The pick. Two plants at a published 24 in, which is the one configuration that solves the usual poinsettia problem of owning one of something that wants to be a pair.

Good
- Sold as a pair, which is how poinsettias are actually used — symmetry either side of a door, a hearth or a stair foot
- Twenty-four inches is tall enough to read from the street in a porch planter and not so tall it dominates a mantel
- Publishes both the height and the piece count, which half this category does not
Watch out
- No published UV rating, so outdoors in direct sun the red will fade and the listing will not tell you how fast
- Does not state whether it arrives potted or as a stemmed plant to drop into your own container
- Near the top of this page's price band, and two of the four facts that would justify it — a pot and a UV rating — are unstated

24 in, 2 pieces, stakes included, stated outdoor
7.8

Good
- The only pick here whose listing states both outdoor use and an included stake, which together are what make a poinsettia usable in a bed or an existing urn
- A stake is the difference between a plant that stands up in wind and one that lies down in the mulch by the second week
- Same published 24 in height as the top pick, in a pair
Watch out
- Still publishes no UV rating, which is the figure that would actually quantify the fade
- A staked plant needs something to be staked into — it is not a free-standing object on a step
- No published pot, so it is a filler rather than a finished decoration

Good
- Arrives in its own wrapped planter, so it is the only pick here that is a complete object rather than something to arrange
- Nineteen inches is the right height for a hall table, a desk or a kitchen counter where a 24 in plant is too much
- The foil-wrapped pot is the visual shorthand everyone recognizes as a poinsettia, which matters if the point is the look rather than the filler
Watch out
- One plant, where poinsettias almost always want to be two
- Nineteen inches will not read from a street or across a porch
- No stated outdoor use and no UV rating — treat it as indoor

Artificial poinsettia flowers, 14 in, 9 pack, UV resistant

Good
- The only pick here whose listing claims UV resistance, which is the exact property the other four leave unstated
- Nine stems is enough to dress two planters and still have stems left for a wreath or a mantel garland
- Mixed content — poinsettias with eucalyptus and pine — means it works as a filler without buying greenery separately
Watch out
- Fourteen inches is a stem, not a plant: on its own it is short, and it needs a container or a form to sit in
- UV resistance is a claim with no number behind it — no hours, no rating, no warranty
- No published brand, which makes a repeat buy next season a gamble

Good
- Arrives potted, and it is in stock
Watch out
- Publishes no height, which on a page about scale is the only figure that matters
- Publishes no piece count either, so you cannot tell whether you are buying a pair or a single
- Stock was down to three units when we checked, so the listing may not be there when you are

How we ranked these
Published height first, because scale is what a decoration is for. Then piece count, since a symmetrical placement needs two and most listings sell one. Then whether the listing states outdoor use, a stake, a pot, or a UV rating — four facts, and no product here publishes more than two of them.
| Poinsettia | Height | Pieces | Stake or pot | Outdoor stated | UV rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nearly Natural 24 in pair | 24 in | 2 | Not stated | No | No |
| Daynight 24 in pair | 24 in | 2 | Stakes | Yes | No |
| Nearly Natural 19 in planter | 19 in | 1 | Wrapped planter | No | No |
| 14 in stems, 9 pack | 14 in | 9 | Neither — loose stems | Yes | Claimed |
| WOBUBU potted | Not stated | Not stated | Pots | No | No |
UV rating means a published rating. The 14 in stems claim UV resistance with no number, no hours and no warranty behind it, which is why the column says claimed rather than yes.

Why the piece count matters more than the height
Poinsettias get used in two places: either side of something, or in the middle of something. Either side of a door, a hearth, a porch step or the foot of a stair is the common case, and it needs two plants of the same height. Buy one and you have half a decoration.
The arithmetic
- Flanking a door: 2 plants
- Flanking a hearth: 2 plants
- Porch steps, one per side of three risers: 2 to 6 plants
- A single hall table or counter: 1 plant
Three of the four common placements want an even number. The two 24 in picks here are sold as pairs; the 19 in planter is sold singly and wants to be bought twice.
Height then decides where the pair goes. Twenty-four inches reads from a path and holds its own in a porch planter. Nineteen inches is an indoor scale — a table, a counter, a mantel beside the centerpiece. Fourteen inches is not a plant height at all; it is a stem length, which is a different product discussed below.
The sun problem, and what nobody publishes
Red is the fastest-fading pigment in outdoor artificial decor, and this category knows it: four of the five listings here say nothing at all about ultraviolet. The 14 inch stem pack claims UV resistance, which is a claim rather than a figure — no hours, no rating, no warranty.
This is the same gap documented on artificial mums and how long fall decorations really last outdoors. The practical consequence for a poinsettia is better than for a mum, because the season is shorter: a Christmas plant is outside from late November to early January, roughly six weeks of the lowest-UV part of the year. A fall mum sits through ten weeks of September and October sun. Fading is a real problem over several seasons and not a problem within one.
Stems, plants and which one you are actually buying
Three different products sell under the word poinsettia, and the listings do not always make the difference obvious.
A potted plant is a finished object: the 19 inch wrapped planter is put down and done. A staked plant is a finished top on a spike, for pushing into something. And loose stems — the 14 inch 9 pack — are a filler: they go into a container, a wreath or a garland you already have, and nine of them dress two planters with stems left over.
The site covers the same three-way split in fall, where artificial mums are the finished plants and urn fillers are the loose stems. For Christmas stems specifically, the berry and pine equivalents are on Christmas berry picks.
Why the WOBUBU set is the skip
The WOBUBU potted poinsettias arrive in their own pots, which is the one thing in their favour. The listing publishes no height and no piece count — both of the only two figures this category has. You cannot tell whether you are buying a pair or a single, or whether it stands 10 inches or 24.
Stock was down to three units when we checked, which is also worth knowing before you plan a symmetrical placement around it.
Questions
›What size artificial poinsettia should I buy?
Twenty-four inches for anywhere it has to read from a path or a porch, and 19 inches for a table, counter or mantel. Below about 15 inches you are buying stems rather than plants, which is a filler product for putting into something else.
›Can artificial poinsettias go outside?
Yes, but only one listing here states outdoor use and an included stake, and none publishes a UV rating. The Christmas season is short and falls in the lowest-UV weeks of the year, so fading is a multi-season problem rather than a within-season one. Expect red to go pink over several years outdoors.
›How many artificial poinsettias do I need?
Two for anything symmetrical — either side of a door, a hearth or a stair foot — which is three of the four common placements. One is only right for a single table or counter. Two of the picks here are sold as pairs for that reason.
›What is the difference between a poinsettia plant and poinsettia stems?
A plant is a finished object with a pot or a stake. Stems are loose lengths you push into a container, wreath or garland you already have. A 14 inch stem is not a 14 inch plant; most of its length disappears into whatever it goes in.
