The best flat-back and corner Christmas trees for tight rooms
A half tree gives up the side nobody sees and takes back half the floor. Height, tip count and which wall it meets decide which shape.
By Sawyer V. · Published

In a narrow hallway, a rented studio or a room where the sofa cannot move, a full round tree is not a decorating choice so much as a furniture problem. A flat-back half tree solves it by deleting the quarter nobody looks at; a corner tree does the same trick at 270 degrees.
The shapes are not a compromise on height — there are 7 and 8 ft versions here. They are a compromise on depth, and on how many tips you get. Five below, one to skip.

Good
- 270 degrees means three-quarters of a tree — it reads as a full tree from everywhere except the corner
- The densest and tallest of the space-saving shapes here
- Hinged branches and a metal stand, both named
Watch out
- 8 ft needs a 9 ft ceiling once a topper goes on
- A corner tree only works in a corner; against a flat wall the shape shows

Good
- Full 7 ft of height against a wall that could not take a round tree
- Pre-lit, so a tree that lives in a hallway needs one plug and nothing else
- The listing publishes both tip count and light count
Watch out
- 881 tips over 7 ft is sparse next to a full round tree; it reads best against a wall, not in the open
- Stand not described

Good
- Two light colors and 11 published modes, which no other half tree here offers
- Flocking hides the thinner back half better than plain green does
- 860 tips published, the densest half tree here, on blended PE and PVC rather than PVC alone
- A UL certified adapter and a folding metal stand, both published
Watch out
- Flocking sheds, and a half tree lives close to a wall that shows it
- An inline controller rather than a remote, so the modes are changed at the cord
- 18.5 lb in three sections is a two-trip carry up stairs

Specs from the Amazon listing (ASIN B0HKWKMMC6), verified via the Creators API 2026-10-06. Replaces the DORTALA B0FWKJBTYV, which Amazon now shows as currently unavailable; DORTALA's live flocked trees are full trees, not half trees. This one holds the 7 ft flocked half-tree format and the 240 warm-white-and-multicolor LEDs, publishes 860 tips rather than 852, and is controlled by an inline controller rather than a remote, so that claim has been corrected.

#4 — A narrow hallway or a small entry
HOMCOM half Christmas tree, 5 ft, 229 branches, steel base
5 ft half tree, 229 branches, steel base, auto-open

Good
- Auto-open branches, so setup is unfolding rather than fluffing 200 tips
- 5 ft suits a hall table or an entry where a 7 ft tree blocks the path
- Steel base and flame-retardant material both named
Watch out
- 229 branches is the sparsest here; it needs ribbon or garland to fill
- Unlit, so it needs its own string lights

#5 — skip this
Nearly Natural pre-lit flat back artificial tree, 4 ft, wall decor

Good
- Genuinely flat, so it hangs like a picture where no floor space exists at all
- Pre-lit
Watch out
- Sold as wall decor rather than a tree — there is no stand, so it cannot stand up on its own
- At 4 ft it is a decoration beside a door, not the room's tree

How we ranked these
Height first, because the point of these trees is keeping full height in a room that cannot take full depth. Then tip count per foot, then whether the listing publishes its stand and construction.
| Tree | Shape | Height | Tips | Tips per foot | Lights |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GOFLAME corner | 270 degree corner | 8 ft | 1,137 | 142 | 360 LED |
| VINGLI half | Half, flat back | 7 ft | 881 | 126 | 230 warm |
| Happygrill half | Half, flat back | 7 ft | 860 | 123 | 240, two colors |
| HOMCOM half | Half | 5 ft | 229 branches | 46 | Unlit |
| Nearly Natural | Wall mounted | 4 ft | Not stated | n/a | Pre-lit |
Tips per foot is tips divided by height, our arithmetic. HOMCOM publishes branches rather than tips, which is not the same count.

How much floor you get back
The arithmetic
- A full 7.5 ft tree is about 59 in across: radius 29.5 in
- Circle area = 3.14 x 29.5 x 29.5 = about 2,734 sq in = 19 sq ft
- Half tree = half that = about 9.5 sq ft
- Corner tree at 270 degrees = three-quarters = about 14 sq ft
A half tree hands back roughly 9 sq ft of floor — the footprint of an armchair. A corner tree gives back about 5 sq ft but keeps three-quarters of the silhouette, which is why it is the pick when a corner is available.
The tip count you give up
A full 7.5 ft tree in our tip count guide runs 2,200 to 2,600 tips. The half trees here publish 860 to 881 over 7 ft, which is roughly a third — more than half the tree is missing from the back, and the front is less dense than a full tree's front. Plan on ribbon, picks or a garland to fill, exactly as you would on a pencil tree.
Pre-lit is the norm here
Four of the five are pre-lit, which suits a tree squeezed into a hallway where a cord run is awkward. The Happygrill goes furthest: 240 LEDs in warm white or multicolor across 11 modes, from an inline controller. The HOMCOM is the unlit one, and at 5 ft it takes about 250 lights by the 100-per-foot rule on how many lights you need.
Why the Nearly Natural is the skip
The Nearly Natural 4 ft flat back is sold as wall decor: no stand, no tip count, and 4 ft of height. It is a decorated panel in a tree shape. If the room truly has no floor for a tree it is an answer, but the 5 ft HOMCOM stands on the floor and reads as a tree.
Storing an odd shape
Half and corner trees store like any other hinged tree, but the flat back makes them awkward in a round bag. An upright bag suits them better; see upright tree storage bags and how to store an artificial tree.
Questions
›What is a half Christmas tree?
A tree with a flat back, built to stand against a wall. It keeps full height and gives up the depth — about 9 sq ft of floor saved against a full 7.5 ft tree.
›Half tree or corner tree?
Corner if you have a free corner: at 270 degrees it reads as a full tree from the room. Half if the only clear space is a flat wall or a hallway.
›Do flat-back trees look thin?
They have roughly a third of a full tree’s tips, so yes, unless you fill them. Ribbon, picks and a garland do the work.
›How many lights does a 5 ft unlit half tree need?
About 250, by the 100-lights-per-vertical-foot rule — and you can use fewer than on a round tree because there is no back to wrap.
