The ceiling check comes first

A 7.5 ft tree stored upright fits under an 8 ft ceiling only if the rolling stand is less than about 6 in tall. A 9 ft tree does not fit under an 8 ft ceiling at all without taking the top section off.
So measure the room before choosing the bag. A 9 ft upright bag is for a tall basement, a garage with a high ceiling, or a tree whose top section comes off. The same measuring discipline for every storage decision is on how much storage space do I need.
Why upright is worth it for a pre-lit tree
Section connectors are the weak point of a pre-lit tree: every season they are unplugged, flexed and pushed back together. A tree stored standing never goes through that. It also keeps its shaping — the hours spent fluffing branches are not undone by folding them flat into a duffel.

The stand does the carrying
An assembled pre-lit tree is heavy and awkward, and the rolling stand is what moves it.
