The best outdoor spotlights for Christmas decorations
A wreath, a nativity or a tree lit from below is the difference between decorations and a display. Lumens, beam and color temperature decide how it looks.
By Sawyer V. · Published

Most of a Christmas display is invisible after dark unless it is lit: the wreath on the door, the nativity in the bed, the big tree in the yard. A pair of stake-mounted spotlights aimed up at them costs less than one inflatable and changes the whole front of the house.
Five spotlight pairs below, ranked on published brightness, color temperature, weather rating and control.

Good
- 1000 lm is the highest published output here, at a 2700K warm white that matches warm string lights
- IP67 is the highest rating here — immersion-proof, which matters for a light that sits in wet ground
Watch out
- A 45° beam is a spot; lighting a whole facade takes several
- Cord length not published

EDISHINE Christmas spotlights, 2 pack, 800 lm, 5 color lenses

Good
- Five color lenses cover Christmas, Halloween, the Fourth of July and Easter from one pair of lights
- ETL listed, published
Watch out
- 5000K white is cool; with no lens it looks blue beside warm lights
- A 5 ft cord means an extension cord almost everywhere

#3 — Changing color without changing lenses
SUNVIE RGB spotlights, 2 pack, 12 W, remote

Good
- Color changes from the remote, so red and green for Christmas, orange for Halloween, without touching the light
- A published 12 W — 0.1 A each, nothing on a circuit
Watch out
- RGB white is rarely as clean as a dedicated warm white LED
- No IP code published

#4 — Switching itself on at dusk
SURAIELEC Christmas spotlights, 2 pack, remote and timer, 10 ft cord

- No color lenses

How we ranked these
Published brightness and weather rating first, then color temperature, then control and cord.
| Spotlights | Lumens | White | Color options | Rating | Control |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Holeva | 1000 | 2700K warm | 3 lenses | IP67 | Plug-in |
| EDISHINE | 800 | 5000K cool | 5 lenses | Waterproof, ETL | Plug-in |
| SUNVIE | Not stated (12 W) | RGBW | Remote color | Waterproof | Remote |
| SURAIELEC | Not stated | Warm glow | Red, green, yellow | Waterproof | Remote + timer |
| 350 lm pair | 350 | 5000K cool | None | ETL | Plug-in |
Every set is a 2 pack of stake-mounted plug-in lights. Only the Holeva publishes a beam angle.

How big an area one spotlight lights
The arithmetic
- Holeva beam: 45°, half-angle 22.5°
- At 10 ft: 2 x 10 x tan(22.5°) = 2 x 10 x 0.41 = 8.3 ft wide
- At 15 ft: 2 x 15 x 0.41 = 12.4 ft wide
A 45° spot 10 ft from a wreath lights a circle about 8 ft across — the door, the wreath and some of the wall. Placed 15 ft from a tree, it covers about 12 ft of it. Lighting a whole facade takes several.
Warm white, cool white, or color
The Holeva is 2700K warm white, the same color as warm string lights, and at 1000 lm it is the brightest here. The EDISHINE and our skip are 5000K, which looks blue beside warm lights — unless you put a colored lens on, which the EDISHINE gives you five of. The reasoning is on warm white vs cool white.
What spotlights are for
The things that do not light themselves: a nativity, a wreath, a big tree, a flag. Lit figures and inflatables already glow; a spotlight on them is wasted. The wreath side is on Christmas door decorations, and a flag flown after dark on porch flag kits.
Power and timers
The SUNVIE publishes 12 W, 0.1 A each — nothing on a circuit. The SURAIELEC has a built-in timer and a 10 ft cord; for the rest, a timer socket does the job. Every spotlight here plugs in outdoors, so use a GFCI outlet and an outdoor-rated cord — see outdoor Christmas light safety and outdoor light timers.
Questions
›How bright should a spotlight for Christmas decorations be?
The pairs here run from 350 to 1000 lm. For a wreath or a nativity 10 ft away, 800 to 1000 lm lights it clearly without washing it out.
›How much area does an outdoor spotlight cover?
A 45° beam 10 ft from its target lights a circle about 8 ft across; at 15 ft, about 12 ft. Several are needed for a whole facade.
›Warm white or cool white spotlights?
Warm white, around 2700K, if the display uses warm string lights. Cool white looks blue beside them unless a colored lens is fitted.
›Can outdoor spotlights stay out in snow?
One pair here publishes IP67, the highest rating on the page. Others say waterproof with no code. Plug any of them into a GFCI outlet.
