Why size variation is the whole trick
Hung at the same height in the same size, bats read as bunting. Hung at different heights in three to five sizes, the small ones look far away and the big ones look close, and the porch gains depth it did not have. That is the single reason the five-size packs rank above the twelve-piece single-size ones.
How many a porch takes
The arithmetic

- A bat every 18 in in both directions: 7 across x 6 deep = 42 positions
- Hanging a third of those keeps it a swarm, not a curtain: about 14 bats

Sixteen bats is about right for one porch ceiling at a natural density. Twenty-four covers a porch plus a tree or a doorway; twelve does one doorway or one window.
Hang them at different heights
Cut the string at three lengths — short at the back, long at the front — so the swarm occupies a volume rather than a plane. The LCHUANG pack includes 525 ft of black string, which is enough to hang every bat several times over. Outdoors, clear fishing line reads better by day; black string disappears at night.
What survives October outside
Two packs name plastic and one of those says waterproof. Card-stock bats fold and fade in the first wet week, and glowing-eye stickers lift once they get soaked. If the bats are going in a tree rather than under a porch roof, buy plastic and accept that eye stickers are a two-week feature.
Why the mini pack is the skip
The 12-piece mini pack publishes no measurement at all beyond the word mini, no material and no string. Bats are a decoration whose whole job is to be seen from the sidewalk; mini ones are a tabletop product wearing an outdoor listing.
The rest of the porch
