Fall garland is the piece that ties a fall mantel or a front door together, and it is almost always bought short. A 6 ft strand sounds like plenty for a 5 ft mantel until it is draped in swags, at which point it covers well under five.

How much garland a mantel actually takes
This site’s convention for swagged garland is 1.33 times the straight length — the extra that goes into the dips. The same convention runs through the Christmas garland pages, and it applies unchanged to fall.
The arithmetic
- A 60 in (5 ft) mantel, straight run: 5 ft of garland
- Swagged: 5 ft x 1.33 = 6.65 ft
- One 6 ft strand swagged covers 6 / 1.33 = 4.5 ft
- A door surround: 80 + 36 + 80 in = 196 in = 16.3 ft
One 6 ft strand covers a 5 ft mantel laid straight but falls short swagged. The lit 2 pack (12 ft) covers the mantel swagged with room to trail. A full door surround needs about 16 ft — more than any single purchase here.

Five LEDs per foot, and what that looks like
Every lit strand here that publishes a count carries 30 LEDs over 6 ft, which is 5 per foot. For comparison, the pre-lit Christmas garland this site ranks carries 100 lights over 9 ft — about 11 per foot. Fall garland is lit for glow, not sparkle.
That is the right choice for a fall mantel, where warm and low reads better than bright. If you want more, the unlit Lvydec strands with a warm fairy-light string wound through give you control over both length and density.
Foliage variety
Up close, what gives a garland away as artificial is repetition: the same leaf, the same color, every few inches. The five-leaf strand publishes five leaf styles, which is the only foliage claim in the category that addresses that directly.
Our skip goes the other way — sunflowers, mini pumpkins and berries on a 6 ft vine — and heavy trim on a light vine droops in the middle of every swag.
Porch rail or mantel
The Artgar listing names indoor and outdoor porch use; the others do not say. Battery boxes and fabric leaves are both better under a porch roof than on an exposed rail, and fall is the wettest decorating season of the year. The durability argument is on fall decor weather durability.
From October to Thanksgiving

Putting it away
Coil garland in loose turns rather than folding it; folds crease the vine and flatten the leaves. Take the batteries out before it goes in the box. The method is on garland and greenery storage.

Straight, the length of the mantel. Swagged, about 1.33 times that. A 5 ft mantel takes 6.65 ft swagged, which is more than a single 6 ft strand — buy the 2 pack or lay one strand straight.
›How many lights does a fall garland have?
Every lit fall garland here that publishes a count carries 30 LEDs over 6 ft, or 5 per foot. That is about half the density of a typical pre-lit Christmas garland, which suits the warmer, lower look of a fall mantel.
›How much garland goes around a front door?
Up one side, across the top and down the other: on a standard 36 by 80 in door that is about 196 in, or 16.3 ft. That is more than any single purchase on this page, so plan on two packs.
›Can fall garland go outside?
One strand here names outdoor porch use; the others do not say. Keep lit garland under a porch roof, where the battery box and fabric leaves stay dry.
