The best flameless candles, for the porch lantern and the mantel
A lantern on the step and a row of pillars on the mantel are fall's classic light. Waterproofing, diameter and a timer decide which set goes where.

Flameless candles solve the two problems real ones have on a porch: the wind blows them out, and an open flame on a step full of costumed trick-or-treaters is a bad idea. An LED pillar with a flicker and a timer does the job for two months without a match.
The catch is that most flameless candles are indoor products. Only one set here is sold as waterproof; the rest belong on a mantel or inside a lantern under a deep porch roof. We ranked with that split in mind. Five below, one to skip.

Porch or mantel
The waterproof 12-piece set is the only one the listing puts outdoors, which makes it the pick for this hub: open porch lanterns, an outdoor table, the step. The real-wax sets look better up close, and they are the right choice for a mantel or a lantern tucked under a deep porch roof. None of them is sold for rain.

Ivory or birch
