A front-yard graveyard is the most economical Halloween display there is: a handful of foam stones, a little fog, one low light. It is also the one most likely to look defeated by the second weekend, with half the stones leaning and one face-down on the lawn.

Three of five sets publish two or more stakes per stone. The JOYIN ships two spares, which is exactly the number you need after the first stake meets a buried root.
Why two stakes and not one
A flat stone on a single stake pivots about it. Wind does not have to knock it over; it only has to turn it, and a tombstone turned side-on to the street is a thin grey line. Two stakes at the corners stop the rotation completely.

Metal stakes bend. Plastic stakes snap.
Two sets publish metal stakes and one publishes plastic. In soft October soil both work. In compacted lawn, or when a stake meets a stone, a metal stake bends and can be straightened; a plastic one snaps at the ground line and leaves its lower half buried.
The 6 pack is the best-documented set here on weather — waterproof and fade-resistant are both stated — and becomes the best set outright with a handful of metal garden stakes swapped in.

Nearly a third taller. Seen from the sidewalk across a lawn, the taller stones read as headstones and the 17 in stones as markers — which is an argument for mixing heights rather than for buying only one.
Laying out a graveyard that looks old
The mistake is spacing stones evenly in a straight row, which reads as a fence. A real old graveyard is irregular: stones at slightly different angles, some leaning back, rows that wander.
The arithmetic

A 10 ft front bed takes about seven stones before it starts to look crowded — more than any single set here, which is why the best graveyards are usually two sets mixed.
Mix the heights, turn every third stone a few degrees, and tilt one or two back as if the ground has settled. Then light it.
One low light and a little fog
Textured 3D foam, like the GameXcel stones, only shows its texture under a light from the side — lit from the front it is a flat grey face. One low floodlight raking across the graveyard from one end gives every stone a shadow and every carved letter an edge.
The lighting method is on Halloween display lighting, and ground haze is on the best Halloween fog machines. A giant skeleton standing behind the graveyard is the usual centerpiece.
Storing foam without denting it
Foam stones stack flat and weigh almost nothing, which tempts people to store heavy things on top of them. Do not: foam dents permanently, and a dented face is a dented face every October after. Store them flat on top of the pile, with the stakes bundled and taped to one of them.

›How many tombstones do I need for a front yard graveyard?
Leaving a stone-width between stones, a 10 ft bed takes about seven. That is more than any single set here, so most good graveyards are two sets mixed — which also gives you two heights.
›How do you keep foam tombstones from blowing over?
Two stakes per stone, pushed in to their full length and splayed slightly apart. One stake lets the stone pivot. Metal stakes hold better in compacted lawn than plastic ones, which snap at the ground line.
›Are foam tombstones waterproof?
One set here states waterproof and fade-resistant construction explicitly; the others do not say. Foam itself does not soak up much water, but a painted face can fade over a wet month outdoors.
›How tall should Halloween tombstones be?
Most sets are about 17 inches, and one here is 22. Seen from the sidewalk, the taller stones read as headstones and the shorter as markers — mixing the two looks more like an old graveyard than either alone.
