Solar post caps are the easiest permanent light a deck or fence can have: they replace the cap on top of a post, charge all day, and light all night, with no wiring. They stay up year round, which makes them the base layer every seasonal display on a deck sits on.

The arithmetic
- 160 lm / 5 lm = 32
- 120 lm / 5 lm = 24
The brightest cap here puts out 32 times the light of the dimmest. A 5 lm cap marks where the post is; a 120 to 160 lm cap lights the step beside it.
So choose by the job. Along a fence, where the point is a line of glowing posts, 5 lm warm white is right. At the top of deck steps, where someone needs to see their footing, the 160 lm Sumaote is the one to buy.
Measure the post, not the label
A nominal 4x4 post is not 4 inches square; dressed lumber sold as 4x4 measures about 3.5 in. Caps are made to that. The SUNWIND publishes a base fit up to 5.15 in, the multi-fit cap covers 4x4 to 6x6, and the Sumaote 120 is the only one published for 3x3 metal and vinyl posts. Measure yours with a tape before ordering.
A year-round base layer
Post caps stay up all year and carry every season: wrap the posts with garland at Christmas, tie bows on them for the Fourth of July, and the caps keep glowing on top.
