Fall decor when the porch is a stoop
Narrow doors, no yard and nowhere to store anything. The sizing, the three pieces that do the work, and what to skip entirely.

Fall decorating is photographed on wide covered porches with steps deep enough to stand a row of pumpkins on. A great many front doors are not that. A stoop, a shared landing, a balcony or a three-foot-deep entrance is the normal case, and scaling the magazine version down does not work — it produces a cluttered doorway you have to step around.
Small entrances want fewer, better-sized pieces and more vertical thinking. Here is the sizing, and the three things that actually do the work.

Size the wreath to the door, not to the season
The 24-inch wreath is the default in this category and it is too big for a lot of doors. On a narrow or half-glass door it crowds the frame, and behind a storm door it may not fit at all.

On a stoop, go vertical
A small entrance has no floor area to spend, so the decoration has to go up rather than out. A pair of lanterns flanking the door occupies almost no depth and reads as a finished entrance from the path; a row of pumpkins along a step you also have to walk on does not.
The 15-inch metal lanterns are the right scale for this — small enough to sit beside a door without narrowing it, sold as a pair so the symmetry is automatic, and with LED candles included so they contribute after dark. That last part matters more on a small entrance than a large one, because a stoop is read from ten feet away rather than from the street.
When there is no outdoor outlet
A stoop or a balcony rarely has one, which rules out most lit fall decor. Two formats get around it.
Solar covers the ground layer, with the standing condition that the panel needs direct daylight — resin solar pumpkins are a set of two in a material that tolerates weather, and they are the right piece for a step edge on an open balcony. Under a covered landing where no daylight reaches, solar simply does not work and battery LED candles inside lanterns are the honest answer instead. Small home, small storage
The constraint people notice in September is the porch. The one they notice in December is the cupboard. A small entrance almost always comes with small storage, so collapsibility is worth more here than anywhere else on the site.

What to leave out
- Real pumpkins on a walked-on step. They are heavy, they get moved every time somebody passes, and they eventually leak.
- Anything free-standing on a shared path. It is the first thing a neighbour or a delivery driver has to step around.
- A second seasonal wreath. One deeper-toned fall wreath covers September through Thanksgiving — the reasoning is on the September-to-December porch plan.
